'Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion' is the formal title of a layperson who distributes the Eucharist. Also known as Eucharistic Ministers or EMHC, they assist the priest and deacons in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. This person is given spiritual, theological and practical training before being invited to perform this ministry.
While performing this ministry, the EMHC is expected to dress appropriately and act in a reverential manner. An orientation/training session at Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi is required to serve as a Eucharistic Minister. It is open to all Catholics who are in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. You must agree to follow the current guidelines as set down at Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi Parish.
