The Planned Assistance Ministry coordinates several collections of needed items and many of the service projects that are planned by our parish throughout the year to help those in need. This includes collections of food, blankets, clothing, toys and other items.
Some of the most visible projects include a collection and distribution of food for Thanksgiving Meal, a collection and service project for the Catholic Charities Christmas Store and a collections and service project for Fast Track.
FastTrack is a county-wide drive to collect back-to-school supplies for children in the Center Grove area. The project runs through most of July and has been a very successful drive.
Thanksgiving Food Distribution
Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi's parish community is extremely generous and makes this needed program a huge success. Every year, right before Thanksgiving, over a hundred people, who have been invited through a referral program, come to our church and receive a complete meal for their Thanksgiving dinner.
In November every year, a list of food is handed out along with a grocery bag. Parishioners are asked to pick up a bag and list, fill the bag and return it the week before Thanksgiving. The Outreach Ministry orders turkeys and adds other food, such as potatoes and pumpkin pies to round out their Thanksgiving dinner.
Christmas Store Collection
In early Fall, the Planned Outreach Ministry puts out the call for items to be donated to the Archdiocese's Christmas Store. All kinds of new items are collected: men's, women's, teenager's and children's clothing items are asked for, along with toys and small appliances.
These items are collected and taken downtown to the Archdioceses' Christmas Store. Less fortunate people from all over the Central Indiana area, who have referred from outreach ministries and different agencies, are given invitations to come "shop" for themselves and their families.
Parishioners from Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi usually sign up to work several shifts at the Christmas Store.
